Technology focus: SAP Business Planning and Consolidation, SAP Analytics Cloud Planning

Part of SAP’s Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) portfolio, SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) delivers streamlined planning, budgeting, financial forecasting and consolidation capabilities to drive better business decision-making. It can be rolled-out in three ways, with BPC Standard the operational solution typically run by Finance. BPC Standard runs on the BW/4HANA platform - the next generation data warehouse for the digital enterprise.

The second of the three BPC solutions, BPC Embedded is a version evolved from SAP’s Integrated Planning, which leverages BW Objects directly. A more technical model, BPC Embedded is typically owned and led by your IT department, rather than Finance. The choice between BPC Standard and Embedded ultimately depends on your reporting requirements, in-house skill sets and, critically, who will be taking ownership of the system. Like BPC Standard, the embedded model requires an SAP Business Warehouse environment.

Real-time reporting and planning is now possible within S/4HANA. This leverages the powerful capabilities of SAP’s new S/4HANA platform to unlock the benefits of real-time planning and consolidation - eliminating data replication and providing instant access to data maintained in SAP ERP for modelling and variance analysis.

1. Designing the roadmap

Our first phase of work involves identifying where you are in your EPM and wider SAP journey, and what your future roadmap or migration path might look like.

We’ll look at your use cases and your current pain points, your adoption of HANA (SAP’s latest BPC 11 release requires BW/4HANA) and help you identify the right implementation strategy - depending on whether the system will be business or IT led.

One of the key features of BPC 11 is integration with SAP Analytics Cloud, so we’ll also help you explore the opportunities of a hybrid approach, which allows you to seamlessly move your BPC planning data into SAP Analytics Cloud, running predictive algorithms that generate more advanced insight than ever before.

2. Iterative Implementation

With the requirements of your business agreed, phase two sees us take your business planning and consolidation roadmap forward. Despite its success, SAP BCP has evolved continually, with each iteration increasing the possibilities of what can be achieved. So, how you take the solution to the next step can be a complex process.

Our implementation approach is based on SAP Activate, as well as our own proprietary Active 7 methodology. This means we are laser-focused on delivering your intended business benefits while meeting the needs of your users through a rapid, iterative deployment - playing back your requirements at every step of the process to ensure the right outcomes are being achieved.

3. Support Services

Our work doesn’t end with the roll-out of your chosen SAP BCP solution.

Post implementation, we can continue to provide support for your SAP BPC environment, taking care of hosting and maintenance and delivering  small enhancement projects to continuously improve your solution.

We’ll not only support you on the technical side, but we can also help you ensure your master data and actuals are accurate and up-to-date, so that business decisions are based on a single version of the truth - and as far as possible, done in real time.
